The Angel with the Key to the Abyss

The series concludes with a scene that is still intense, yet more composed. Below, an angel descends from heaven holding a key and a chain, preparing to imprison Satan in the Abyss for a thousand years. Above, another angel shows John the new Jerusalem, imagined by Dürer as a calm and orderly German city, reminiscent of those of his own time. It conveys a final message of renewal: after conflict and destruction, peace is re-established.
